SPORT GELS

The Thrive Diet- by Brendan Brazier

Professional Ironman Triathlete

Modified by Louise

Lemon-Lime Gel

Makes about ¾ cup.

4 dates – pit removed and chopped

½ cup agave syrup nectar* - found in health food stores. It is usually carried by most grocery stores in the sugar section- Ask

1 tbsp organic lime** zest- approximately the whole lime

2 tsp organic lemon** zest – approximately half a lemon

½ tsp dulse*** or dulse flakes.  Found in health food, Asian stores or check with your local grocery.

Sea salt to taste – be sure to taste before bagging.  The agave syrup is sweet and you want to counter that with the salt.

In a blender, combine all ingredients; process until blend reaches a gel-like consistency

This gel will keep for up to 3 days in the refrigerator, but its best when consumed fresh.

Divide into small plastic snack bags.

Cocoa Gel

Modified by Louise

Makes about ¾ cup

4 dates - chopped

¼ cup agave nectar

2 tbsp organic lemon juice

2 tsp of cocoa powder (or carob powder)

2 tsp lemon zest

Sea salt to taste

In a blender, combine all ingredients; process until blend reaches a gel-like consistency

This gel will keep for up to 3 days in the refrigerator, but its best when consumed fresh.

Divide into small plastic snack bags.

*Please use organic lemon/limes.  There is a difference in the taste and you especially want to avoid the chemicals in the skins of the citrus fruit.

**Agave nectar comes from the blue agave cactus.  It is a slow release sugar and when combined with dates is a useful fuel for your workout.  Agave nectar (a natural sweetener) can be used in place of honey or sugar in most of your recipes.

***Dulse a sea weed is packed with minerals and contains naturally occurring electrolytes.  Electrolytes allow our cells to stay hydrated longer hence improving endurance.
